In a vibrant celebration of heritage and hope, the Olokoro Uvoma community of Abia State gathered to mark the 2024 Iri-Ji Festival – a radiant showcase of culture and unity.

This year’s New Yam Festival wasn’t just a joyous cultural spectacle; it was also a heartfelt fundraising event, with proceeds aimed at empowering the future of the community.

Under the glow of colourful performances and traditional ceremonies, donations poured in to support key initiatives that will breathe new life into the Olokoro Uvoma community—initiatives centred around education, youth empowerment and sustainable development. It was especially inspiring to see how passionately people contributed to the cause of reviving secondary schools in the area, recognizing that education is the cornerstone of a brighter tomorrow.

Oyibo Obi B. Thomson, the esteemed Chairman of the occasion and a prominent businessman and philanthropist, underscored the importance of preserving the Iri-Ji tradition for future generations. In his heartfelt address to the community, he reflected on the deep-rooted history of the New Yam Festival, detailing its origins and how it sustained their ancestors through the centuries. He passionately urged that the cultural legacy be passed down, ensuring it continues to flourish. True to his commitment, Oyibo Obi B. Thomson generously contributed a significant sum to support the fundraising efforts, further demonstrating his dedication to the future of Olokoro Uvoma.
