Wanis International Foods, one of the UK’s leading world food wholesalers, marked National Rice Week in spectacular fashion from the 9th to the 15th of September. The East London headquarters became a hub for some of the biggest names in the rice, food, and beverage industries, celebrating one of the world's most versatile and beloved staples—rice.

The event was officially opened by Kapil Wadhwani, Director at Wanis, alongside distinguished guests like Cllr. Sharon Waldron, the Mayor of Waltham Forest, and actress Ann Mitchell from EastEnders, brought together industry leaders, including USA Rice, Tilda Rice, Goya Foods, and Supermalt Drinks.
As the celebration unfolded, the tantalizing aroma of rice dishes filled the air, offering attendees a chance to explore and savour culinary delights from around the world. Expert chefs from Nigeria, Ghana, and the Caribbean showcased their talents, serving up traditional dishes like Ghanaian Waakye (a rice and bean dish by Waakye Joint), Indian-style Pulao (spiced rice with vegetables by Reesa London & Punjabi Lounge), and Jamaican Rice 'n' Peas (by Sweet 2 De Belly).

Guests indulged in a feast of international rice varieties, with the chefs using basmati, long grain, brown, and other rice types to create mouth-watering dishes. The event wasn't just about food but also an opportunity for Wanis customers and partners to learn more about cooking methods and the versatility of rice.
Paul Harrison, Head of Community Relations at Wanis, emphasized the convenience and universal appeal of rice, saying, “Rice is one of the easiest and most convenient meals to cook. It was a great opportunity to get deals on top brands like USA Rice, Tilda, and Goya, while sampling dishes from across the globe.”
The event also featured a meet-and-greet session with the Mayor of Waltham Forest and actress Ann Mitchell, who, alongside other dignitaries, toured the Wanis warehouse Impressed by the scale and quality of the operation, they praised Wanis for its contributions to the food industry.

Among the notable guests were Ambassador Alistair Soyode, founder of Europe’s first ethnic satellite TV station; Ayo Akinfe, Chairman of the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK; Manish Tiwari, Managing Director of Here and Now Ethnic Media Agency; Mike Abiola, MD of African Voice newspaper; and representatives from Wanis, including George Phillips (Commercial Director) and Vas Sideras (Buyer & National Account Manager).
Goya’s international management team also participated, displaying a range of their popular and exotic products, adding to the diverse offerings at the event.
