Ugo Chiori

A popular X influencer, Ugo Chiori, is facing heavy backlash for claiming her acquaintance was murdered by Oro traditionalists in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

Oro Festival is celebrated in South-West Nigeria by male descendants who are paternal natives of the specific location where the festival is taking place.

In a now-deleted tweet on Wednesday, Chiori, self-describes as a baker turned front-end developer, recounted how the said man was allegedly killed after driving into the worshippers on his way home.

“An acquaintance was on his way home to Ajah from work at night, and right on his street, he drove right into the Oro masquerade, and they killed him. His wife just gave birth a few weeks ago,” she posted on X.

She added, “His wife was coming to open the gate for him. He was fast enough to call her on the phone to not come out. Else, it would have been the both of them.

“His twins’ naming ceremony was to be on Saturday”

The sad turn of events immediately drew the attention of many users of the micro-blogging platform who immediately notified the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ben Hundeyin.

However, it was soon noticed that the controversial tweet was deleted after some users questioned her claims and asked for further proof.

Eniola Daniel tweeting as @UnlimitedEniola for instance, dismissed the alleged murder report while asking the police to investigate.

“I  can tell you that this can never this time happen in Lagos or any other state in Nigeria.

It could be when someone runs into angry protesters but not with the Oro people during their procession. I hope @ugochiori gets invited by the police. @LagosPoliceNG @BenHundeyin,” he tweeted.

A check on Chiori’s X page showed that it has since been deactivated in what many described as a desperate move by her to run from investigation.

The state PPRO, Hundeyin, meanwhile was not readily available for further comment on the issue at the time of filling this report.

While reacting, some commenters said Chiori’s sudden disappearance from the platform should not stop the police from seeing her claims through.

“@ugochiori you must provide proof. @BenHundeyin she has deleted the post. We can not let news like this slide. Her tweets could start a war!!!!,” Capt Awesome tweeting as @mmayomi declared.
